I want to personally wish each of you a Happy New Year. I am looking forward to 2021 and later in the year getting the SRWC back to “in-person” events. I have missed seeing SRWC members in person! In the meantime, we will keep all SRWC events virtual…this includes monthly luncheons, book clubs and meetings.

As always, Gwen Gamble, our Programs Director, has a great program set up for our January virtual luncheon. It will be a chance to learn about two new businesses in the Sunriver area. Keep reading to find out more about what Gwen has planned.

We have scheduled several coffee/tea virtual events in January:  January birthday/July half-birthday celebration, “coffee/tea with friends” and a new member coffee/tea. Looking forward to seeing SRWC members on Zoom and “touching base”.

As always, thank you for “Steppin’ Up During this Difficult Time”! If you would like to discuss the SRWC or need anything, please reach out to me at (925) 708-4587 or srwcpresidents@gmail.com.

    Stay safe and healthy!

When 2020 started, I believe none of us could have predicted a pandemic that would turn our world upside down. The SRWC “stepped up” immediately with several members sewing face masks and the SRWC Board creating the COVID-19 Nonprofit Fund. To date, this Fund has awarded over $36,000 in grants to nonprofits in South Deschutes County to meet the demand for essential services. This is in addition to the $50,000 in annual grants that were granted in May.

We asked members to reach out to their neighbors and fellow members to keep in touch and ask if they needed assistance by picking up groceries, etc., especially those that live alone. We have generous members who donate their time to volunteer and/or donate financially including an anonymous donor who graciously made a $15,000 donation to the SRWC for the “where it is most needed” philanthropy fund. Summer was quiet without the Sunriver Art Fair; however, you can support the artists by going to the Sunriver Art Fair website and shopping directly on their websites.

On the social side of the SRWC, we went virtual with our Welcome Event, monthly luncheons, monthly birthday luncheons and new member event. Hearty and Mid-Soles continued hiking, book clubs met in the park or on Zoom, our knitting group met in the park and Winter Fun starts this month. December will be quiet without the Winter Gala.

Our website has been updated and is a valuable tool to keep up with SRWC events and fundraisers. Are you looking to connect with a fellow SRWC member? The website is where you can look up their contact information. Or you can upload the app (Wild Apricot Member) to your smart phone and be able to keep in touch while on the go. This means no more printed directories in the glove box of your car! Are you on social media? Follow, share and like the SRWC and Sunriver Art Fair on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

I, personally, want to thank all our members, community members, businesses and organizations who so graciously donate their time and/or resources to make the SRWC what it is. We could not do it without you! Thank you!!

    Happy Holidays!

Thank you to Matt at Savory Spice Shop for an informative program on the wonderful world of spices for our November luncheon. Again, the box lunches from Café Sintra were delicious. If you have not joined us for a virtual lunch, you are missing out. They are fun and people are enjoying the social time in smaller breakout rooms before the program.

December will be a quiet month for the SRWC with a just a few events: December birthday and June half-birthday coffee/tea on December 9 and the start-up of Winter Fun activities. The Board will take a break this month but will be back to work in January. I am going to miss the Winter Gala this month. It will just make the 2021 Winter Gala even more special!

Are you a new member? We had a new member coffee/tea on November 20. The new members that joined us had a great time and it was decided to hold another one in January. Watch your newsletter and email for further details!!!

Winter Wear for Kids is going strong! My house is one of the drop-off locations and I have 8-9 bags of winter wear clothing items that will be distributed to Rosland Elementary. We have also received over $1,200 in donations so that additional items can be purchased.

As always, thank you for “Steppin’ Up During this Difficult Time”! If you would like to discuss the SRWC or need anything, please reach out to me at (925) 708-4587 or srwcpresidents@gmail.com.

    Stay safe and healthy!

Happy Thanksgiving! It’s time for me to make my pumpkin muffins and my favorite, Pumpkin Cheesecake Bars. If you would love the recipe for either, let me know!

Thank you to Deon at Sunriver Books & Music for a wonderful program for our October luncheon. The box lunches from Café Sintra were delicious. On Zoom, we started members in break-out rooms so there was time for conversation in a smaller group before joining everyone in the main room for announcements and the program. Some members even stayed on at the end for a little more conversation.

Our November luncheon program will be Matt from Savory Spice Shop. Find out how to spice up your holiday cooking. Café Sintra will be offering box lunches prior to the luncheon. Keep reading to find out all the details!!

I would like to thank Gwen Gamble for “steppin’ up” as Program Director and “Steppin’ Up for Local”. I know those of you that were on Zoom for the October luncheon saw what a great job she is doing.

Lunch with Friends has been rescheduled!! Lunch with Friends will be held Monday, November 9 @ 12 noon. You will need to RSVP to Nancy Fischer to receive the Zoom link.

Are you a new member? On November 20 @ 10 am, we will be having a coffee/tea via Zoom. Each new member will receive an email with the Zoom link.

Winter Wear for Kids has kicked off! This year we are asking for exact items. Please keep reading to find out all the details on what to buy and where to drop off.

As always, thank you for “Steppin’ Up During this Difficult Time”! Also, if you would like to discuss the SRWC or need anything, please reach out to me at (925) 708-4587 or srwcpresidents@gmail.com.

It’s Fall…my favorite season!! I love everything about Fall from the leaves changing color to Fall decorations to sweater weather and candy corn!

Thank you to Wild Poppy Florist for a wonderful program during our “Mad Hatter Tea Party” Welcome Event and Marcello’s for a great program during our “It’s 5 o’clock Somewhere Happy Hour” Welcome Event. I found both programs fun and informative and I hope our members attending via Zoom did too.

Our monthly virtual luncheons kick off in October. Sunriver Books & Music is the program for the October 20th luncheon. Find out what the best reads are as Deon takes us on a tour of her bookstore. Café Sintra will be offering box lunches prior to the luncheon. Keep reading to find out all the details!!

Are you on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter? Please follow the Sunriver Art Fair and the Sunriver Women’s Club and make sure you like, comment and share. Looking for some great holiday gifts, go to sunriverartfair.com/artists where you can find links to the artists’ website and start shopping away!

It’s Membership time! You can renew online or download the membership form and mail a check. The new membership year began October 1, but you can join or renew anytime. This year, for the first time, there is no “directory deadline”. As you join or renew, your information is immediately uploaded or updated in our online directory. Also, anytime during the year, you can log in and update your information. Do not forget to sign up for social clubs or volunteer opportunities that interest you.

Our members and community continue to be so generous during this difficult time. I have had several members or community members state that they are not sure what fund they would like to donate to. We have resolved this problem by creating the “Donation to Where it is Most Needed”. This fund allows our Philanthropy Director and her committee to recommend to the Board when this fund should be utilized for philanthropic purposes.

As always, thank you for “Steppin’ Up During this Difficult Time”! Also, if you would like to discuss the SRWC or need anything, please reach out to me at (925) 708-4587 or srwcpresidents@gmail.com.

Exciting things have been happening for the SRWC! I’m going to give a little tidbit of each item and then you will need to read further for all the details!

With the SHARC event rooms closed and Governor Brown’s mandates, we have had to rethink our Welcome Event—two virtual events on two different days, September 15 and 16. Members will have to choose which themed event they will want to “zoom in on”. What are the themes??? Keep reading to find out and details on how to RSVP and get your Zoom link.

I have been personally overwhelmed by the generosity of a Sunriver couple that wishes to remain anonymous. Due to their kindness, the SRWC has received a large donation. Keep reading to find out what the SRWC received; you will be overwhelmed also. My heartfelt thanks to this generous couple for thinking of the SRWC.

Amy Varner has resigned from her position as Programs Director. I would like to thank Amy for her time on the Board and the wonderful programs she arranged for the SRWC.

We have a new Director! Thank you to our Nominating Committee, chaired by Shirley Olson, who immediately went to work and found an amazing replacement. Please join me in welcoming Gwen Gamble to the SRWC Board as Programs Director. Thank you to Gwen for “steppin’ up”.

It’s membership time! You can renew online or download the membership form and mail a check. The new membership year begins October 1 and we would love to see everyone renew their membership by that date.

We have awarded $6,000 from the COVID-19 Nonprofit Fund, which brings us to a total of $31,000 that has been awarded. I have received so many comments from members and community members stating how proud they are of the SRWC for creating this fund. Thank you to everyone for “steppin’ up” to make the COVID-19 Nonprofit Fund possible.

Thank you for “Steppin’ Up During this Difficult Time”!

The SRWC is going virtual! We will start in August with a virtual Lunch with Friends and the August birthday lunch, the Welcome Event will be virtual in September and virtual monthly luncheons will start in October. The SRWC Zoom account is going to be extremely busy! Look for further details in this newsletter and upcoming newsletters on how to “zoom in” and join a virtual event. See you on Zoom!!

August = Sunriver Art Fair; unfortunately, not in 2020!!! If you are going to miss shopping the Sunriver Art Fair (like I will!!), head to their website  http://www.sunriverartfair.com where you will find a link to the artists and their websites. You can purchase items directly from the artists.

I would like to again thank our members, local organizations, community members and friends of members for their generosity in donating to our COVID-19 Nonprofit Fund. We are now over $32,000! One of my greatest experiences during this fundraiser has been talking to a non-member, who was new to the community and had not heard of the SRWC or the COVID-19 Nonprofit Fund. When I told her about what the SRWC was doing to help nonprofits in south Deschutes County, she was overwhelmed, had tears in her eyes and was going to go home and donate immediately to this fund. I also encouraged her to join the SRWC!

Keep reading for more information on upcoming virtual events, what the book clubs are reading and other fun information.

Thank you for “Steppin’ Up During this Difficult Time”!

Happy Summer! I love the weather in Sunriver. In the last three days, we had our first 90-degree day and two days later we never got above 60 degrees. Whatever the weather, I hope all of you enjoy your summer.

The Hearty Soles are hiking with new guidelines in place. One hike was so popular that it was hiked three different days with a total of 24 hikers. Thank you to Carolyn Spaniol and Melodee Munckton for getting Hearty Soles hiking.

What started as a goal of $5,000, has grown to close to $30,000. The COVID-19 Nonprofit Emergency Fund has been extremely successful and has been a lifesaver for nonprofits in south Deschutes County. I would like to thank our members and community members for their continued support of this fund. Our Philanthropy team has been working hard vetting nonprofits in south Deschutes County and will continue until we have disbursed the last dollar from this fund.

Thank you to all who are “Steppin’ Up During this Difficult Time”!

As always, if you need anything, please reach out to me at (925) 708-4587 or srwcpresidents@gmail.com.

    Stay safe and healthy!

Happy Almost Summer! As I write this it is a sunny, warm day in Sunriver. My hanging baskets are blooming and I am ready to plant my “deck garden”. There is nothing like summer in Sunriver.

Our new normal has become social distancing, wearing a mask, and washing our hands. Some of our social clubs are getting back together under the guidelines implemented by Deschutes County, the State and SRWC policy. Book clubs have been meeting via Zoom and the Hearty Soles will start hiking with new guidelines in place.

This will be a noticeably quiet summer for the SRWC with the cancellation of the Incoming/Outgoing Board and Committee Chairs luncheon, Community Picnic, and Sunriver Art Fair. I love all our SRWC events and I am going to personally miss each one. It was heart breaking to cancel the Sunriver Art Fair. Kathleen Meyer and her team have been working so hard since October 2019 to put on another “top 10” art fair. My heart also goes out to the artists who will miss, yet another, means of income.

The good news through all of this is that we have a very generous community from our members to community members to local organizations that have “stepped up” and donated to the COVID-19 Nonprofit Emergency Fund, which is over $25,000 and is still growing. Our Philanthropy team has been working hard vetting nonprofits in south Deschutes County and will continue until we have disbursed the last dollar from this fund.

Starting June 1, you can renew your SRWC membership online with dues remaining the same at $40; membership year is from October 1 – September 30. We have changed our accounting reporting so that dues cover our operating expenses, which allows net proceeds from all fundraisers go directly to our general philanthropy fund.

The Board and Board Assistants started their new term on May 19 and we will have our first Board meeting on June 18 via Zoom. Yes, even with events being cancelled, the Board continues to meet as SRWC business never stops. We have many returning Board members and assistants, but also some amazing women have “stepped up” to new positions and I personally thank each of you.

As always, if you need anything, please reach out to me at (925) 708-4587 or srwcpresident@gmail.com.

    Stay safe and healthy!

Happy Spring! My daffodils are blooming and our sprinklers have been turned on, which tells me it is Spring. However, this is not the Spring that any of us anticipated; social distancing, face masks, Zoom meetings and take-out food are the “new normal”. I hope that all our members, their families, friends and extended families have continued to stay healthy.

Our “Celebration of Giving” luncheon scheduled for May 19 has been cancelled. This was formerly our “Giving Luncheon” but the Board wanted to take it in a new direction where we celebrate not only our sponsors, but our amazing volunteers, philanthropy recipients and community members that make the SRWC the outstanding organization that it is. I was looking forward to introducing our 2020-2021 Board of Directors, Board Assistants, Committee Chairs and Activity Chairs.

What started as a conversation as to what the SRWC could do during this pandemic, turned into the COVID-19 Nonprofit Emergency Fund, which has raised over $15,000 and continues to raise money for nonprofits in south Deschutes County.
Thank you to our members, community members and local organizations who have graciously donated.

As always, our members are “steppin’ up during this difficult time” by making face masks, checking on and picking up groceries for friends and neighbors, dropping off treats for friends, supporting local restaurants with take-out orders, practicing social distancing and wearing face masks.

Please continue to read this newsletter for details on all SRWC events. For the most current information, please check our website or email blasts.

As always, if you need anything, please reach out to me at (925) 708-4587 or srwcpresidents@gmail.com.

    Stay safe and healthy!
